Surgical and Non-Surgical Procedures
As a professional speaker, when in front of big audiences, looking one's best is a must. After being Dr. Lerner's patient, I now travel to Jacksonville, FL from Virginia twice per year to continue seeing him. He's truly the best in the business and keeps me smiling, naturally.

At Atlantic Coast Facial Surgery, we provide a variety of facial enhancement procedures. After a comprehensive consultation, Dr. Lerner will assist you in determining which procedure(s) will help you achieve the most optimum results. Click on any of the procedures below for a detailed overview. All procedures are performed by Don Lerner, MD, a board-certified physician fellowship trained in facial plastic and cosmetic surgery.
Surgery of the eyelids (Blepharoplasty)
Blepharoplasty (surgery of the eyelids) corrects droopy eyelids and removes puffiness and "bags" under the eyes, restoring a more youthful appearance. The same surgery may also be medically indicated when the excess skin of the upper eyelids limits a person's vision.
Depending on a person's medical condition (among other factors) the procedure may be performed "in-office" with light sedation and local anesthesia. Swelling and bruising may occur following surgery and can be covered with makeup about 5 days following surgery.
A complete evaluation along with other treatment options, pre-operative preparation (including dietary modifications), and description of the procedure and after-surgery care will be provided by Dr. Lerner as well as his staff.More information
Forehead (brow) Lift
Forehead or brow lift is a surgery designed to smooth and tighten loose skin of the forehead and when appropriate change the position of the eyebrows. Eyelid surgery alone may not be adequate to raise a droopy eyelid and the brow lift may be done in conjunction with eyelid surgery.
When performed alone, surgery may be done "in-office" with light sedation and local anesthesia depending on a person's overall medical condition. Recovery time may be 5-10 days with minimal scarring upon complete healing of incisions placed at the hairline.
As with other facial cosmetic surgeries performed by Dr. Lerner, an appropriate dietary regiment (including antioxidants and other supplements) is discussed which not only helps to minimize swelling and bruising following surgery, but helps in the anti-aging process and overall good health.More information
Face Lift (Rhytidectomy)
A face lift improves a person's overall appearance by tightening the skin and underlying tisse. With proper consultation, areas such as the jaw line, neck, and folds next to the lips and nose can be smoothed and adjusted.
Before surgery, patients are encouraged to adopt a "proper" dietary regiment to help achieve the best results, with minimal swelling and bruising and optimal healing. The same nutritional intake has been shown to prevent a variety of diseases and should be maintained for a lifetime. This along with a complete evaluation and discussion of other treatment options if indicated will be discussed with Dr. Lerner, as well as his staff at the initial meeting and other times before surgery.
Surgery can be completed with a variety of comfort levels and maximal patient safety, from mild sedation to general anesthesia (provided by a board-certified anesthesiologist). Following surgery, nursing care is recommended for the first 24 hours.More information
Neck Lift (Platysmaplasty)
Platysmaplasty or neck lift is a commonly requested surgery to help restore the youthful smoothness and grace to the neck. The neck is vulnerable early on to the affects of aging with wrinkling and sagging of the skin that covers a delicate part of the body. Along with sculpting the muscles and fat, liposuction of the neck and jaw line is usually performed at the same time.
Neck Lifting by itself is not for every patient, as certain individuals may get better results when performed in conjunction with a Face Lift. A proper evaluation will determine which procedure(s) will give the best aesthetic look for the patient.
Nose Surgery (Rhinoplasty)
Cosmetic surgery of the nose has a tremendous impact on a person's sense of self, whether it's to correct an undesirable nose someone is born with or to restore a distorted nose as a result of injury. At times, other surgery designed to restore proper function of the nose for breathing may be done at the same time if necessary.
Usually performed with deep sedation or general anesthesia (provided by a board-certified anesthesiologist) the patient goes home the same day with varying physical restrictions for about 10-14 days.More information
Fillers and Fat Grafting
Fat Grafting: Over the years plastic surgeons have come to acknowledge the value of restoring volume in the aging face. Improved techniques with Fat Grafting have been shown to achieve a more uniform, predictable and often longer lasting results to restoring a youthful look in the face. Fat is ideal because it comes directly from the patient and avoids any risk of an allergic reaction or rejection.
Fat Grafting can be done in the office with local anesthesia with or without mild sedation. Extra fat taken from the patient can be stored frozen and used exclusively for that patient at a later date. Most all areas of the face can be fat grafted either as a stand-alone procedure or in conjunction with other surgeries such as blepharoplasty or face lift. Fat taken from certain areas of the body also fills in wrinkles and folds of the face avoiding placement of any "unnatural" products in the body. Fat grafts placed in areas of scar and dimpling of the skin has been shown to smooth out the overlying skin and change the distorted color of that scarred skin to a more blended color with the surrounding skin. Gradual filling of areas over a short period of time with smaller amounts versus "bulk" filling with fat is desired. A person's fat can be frozen and stored for up to 3 months retaining viability.
Synthetic Fillers: Facial fillers are materials placed in varying levels of the skin to smooth out wrinkles or "fill" deepened folds of the facial region. Manufactured products such as Restylane®, Juvederm®, Perlane® and Cosmoderm® are substances found naturally in the skin but have been modified to last for varying periods of time before being broken down by the body. Repeated injections of some of these materials has been shown to stimulate the bodies natural production of that substance, thus achieving a long-term desired effect where the product was placed.More information
Ear Pinning (Otoplasty)
Children with prominent ears are often a prime target for ridicule by their peers. Many young adults who suffered with this affliction seek to change their appearance. Often performed with sedation and local anesthesia, otoplasty can provide a dramatic improvement in a patient's overall self-esteem.
